Recruitment
of Dr. Angelika Burger to direct the Translational Research
Laboratory - Approx. $300,000 Funds will be used to purchase state-of-the-art equipment for Dr. Burgers laboratory, such as a fluorescence microscope, cell culture hoods and incubators, high speed centrifuges, and other vital pieces of equipment. Funds will also be used to purchase initial supplies for the Translational Laboratory, and to support a Research Associate. Development of the CAISIS clinical web based database application tool - Approx. $100,000 This web based data management system will be used by the Prostate Cancer Group to enhance the level of clinical research in prostate cancer. FACS Canto Fluorescence Cell Sorting System and Fluorescence Imaging System - Approx. $218,600 This system will be purchased to replace an obsolete system currently in the Prentis research building. Prentis researchers are heavy users of the flow cytometry core, and this system will substantially improve and expand the work carried out by this group. Similarly, the fluorescence imaging system will dramatically expand the live imaging capabilities of researches in the Prentis building. Development of experimental ultrasound imagines system - Approx. $24,390 Research at KCI has resulted in the development of a breast imaging device called CURE, which has significant advantages over X-ray mammography and MRI. Recently the CURE device has been updated with a new imaging ring with higher resolution. This has freed up the previously used ring, which will now be used to build an experimental ultrasound imaging device that will be available to scientists using animal models of cancer. Karmanos Cancer Institute Hospice - Approx. $12,000 |
